Jameson Heritage
Centre. The Jameson Heritage Centre in Midleton, 10 miles from
Cobh, is a must for visitors to East Cork and is surely one of the primary
visitor centres in the area. The Centre relates the wonderful story of Irish
Whiskey making in authentic surroundings. Jamesons are distillers of fine Irish
Whiskey in Midleton since 1825. Visitors are welcomed with a complimentary glass
of Jameson Irish Whiskey. The 18th century Mills, Maltings, Corn Stores,
Warehouses and Kilns have been beautifully restored to create an outstanding
heritage and visual centre
Ballymaloe Cookery School. Ballymaloe is one of Europe's foremost cookery schools, which has attracted students from all over the world since l983. Run by Darina and Tim Allen, the School is located on an organic farm in one of the more attractive parts of Ireland.
Steven Pearce Pottery. Steven Pearce is a potter of international renown who creates functional and artistic pottery to the highest standards. The pottery is located about 6 miles east of Midleton in the village of Shanagarry. Here you can watch the potter at work, purchases can be made here also and international deliveries can be organised.
Ballycotton. Close to Midelton and Shanagarry is the little fishing village of Ballycotton. It is a quiet, idyllic place far away from the madding crowd. A colourful and scenic spot worth a visit when viewing the other attractions of East Cork.
Lismore castle. 20 miles North of Midleton (in County Waterford)
lies Lismore (Lios Mór or the Big Fort, in the Irish language). A quaint village
from an earlier era. On the edge of the village lies the famous Lismore Castle
and Gardens. This is surely one of Irelands most beautiful castles. The
gardens are open to the public in the summer months.
Mitchelstown Cave. Mitchelstown Cave is surely one of the gems of Cork. In the North of the county about 1 hour 30 miles from Cobh, just off the N8. Mitchelstown cave is a world, without sun, without time- man is almost an intruder, in an era where nature reigns supreme. Stroll through the three massive caverns where you are surrounded by stalagmites and stalactites. Mitchelstown is considered one of the finest caves in Europe.
